We bridge cultural divides and guide organizations through complex, long-term processes.
Facilitation & Workshop
Whether you need support to design your meeting agenda and objectives from the ground up, innovative ideas for interactive sessions, or just someone who can bridge the divide between Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholders and rights holders- we have a package and plan that will support you achieving your goals.
-
We are not afraid to lead the way and represent your organization as an independent and unbiased voice in the room. However make no mistake, we will bring our years of lived experience as First Nations professionals- survivors of both the sixties scoop and residential school eras, as well as our knowledge of working and existing within two worlds.
Strategic Planning
Whether for your non-profit board, or your team’s short- or long-term planning, we center both Indigenous ways of knowing and doing with western practices. We have learned from local Elders and Knowledge Keepers like Dr. Reg Crowhshoe of Piikani First Nation, how to look for the parallels in process, language and ways of doing for joint success.
-
Experiential learning and opportunities to learn from the land, Elders and experts are just some of the options that we have to offer. We work with local Indigenous Peoples and ensure goals and objectives are met.
Indigenous Relations
This complex area of work can straddle many sectors, departments and functions. It takes a strategic thinker and outspoken person to support this work with integrity and ethics which both the business and the community can relate to. Both Chris and Monique embody these traits and have extensive experience manoeuvring these often-bureaucratic settings.
-
The core of their work and experience is rooted here, with an element of this sector touching on nearly all of their collective careers to date. There exists only a handful of First Nations professionals who have lasted in the often tiresome and taxing environment of this work due to the personal toll it can take on your life as someone with lived experience as a First Nations individual.
This work can include strategic design for procurement practices, employment, social investment decisions, community engagement and where needed consultation.
Indigenous
Awareness Training
We have many years of experience in various settings in delivery of half day, full day and whole semester long courses in “Indigenous Studies 201” style content. We can touch on historical, legal, cultural and contemporary subjects that inform and transform your team to a better understanding to the relationship between the First Peoples and Canada.
-
Both as a pair they have teaching experience at the graduate level, and Monique has experience teaching at local post secondary schools such as Bow Valley College, St. Mary’s University and the University of Calgary.
We are happy to co-design the right content and delivery with you to begin the journey- so that your team or organization is ready for the work ahead, whether toward a better understanding of reconciliation efforts or strategic planning.
Reconciliation & Partnerships Plan
Monique has experience in the design and development of the first Canada Indigenous Partnerships Plan for BHP Canada - a plan that began as a reconciliation action plan, but was subsequently changed to meet the needs and realties of the company and their presence in Canada.
-
The community engagement and the preparation required for an organization/company to undertake a plan that wishes to address the TRC Calls to Action in Canada, or the core relationships and partnerships with the Indigenous Peoples in their operating areas is a long-term plan.
Sustainative Inc. knows what it takes- the time, the commitment and the resources to embark on this important journey. Let us assist you in starting off on the right foot.
Social Impact &
Program Evaluation
Chris is a social performance professional, while at Shell Canada and the US, became a social performance specialist to ensure that the needs of community where not negatively impacted.
-
Monique has experience utilizing a First Nations evaluation method for program evaluation that she adapted from her Masters degree framework. She enabled a First Nations perspective to evaluate and offer recommendations for improvement and success for a local non-profit in Calgary.
