Storybasket Framework for Evaluation

Within this project, Monique used a thoughtful approach to evaluation and storytelling for the Centre for Newcomers in Calgary and their Indigenous Education Program. Her method of integrating Stó:lô storywork into the evaluation practice is both profound and inspiring. It highlights the importance of acknowledging one’s own biases and worldview in the interpretation of data, which is crucial for meaningful and authentic evaluation.

The distinction between sxwoxwiyam (myth-like stories) and sqwélqwel (true stories or news) in Stó:lô culture provides a rich framework for understanding and conveying the narratives of projects and programs. This approach not only respects the cultural context but also enhances the depth and relevance of the evaluation.

This work embodies the essence of transformational learning by fostering a deeper connection between the evaluator, the community, and the stories being told. It’s a powerful reminder of the value of culturally grounded methodologies in research and practice.
